Which version of vista? Home basic only requires 512 of memory while Home Premium & above recommends at least a gig, just for the O/S. Also crashing issues are most likeley being caused by openGL problems between vista and graphics drivers. Not using an ATI, so can't be positive, but I had to download new drivers for the nvidia 6150 that came with my system then tweak and change the card settings using it's tools. Before doing that, P7 was giving me all kinds of issues in Vista, but works fine now.
