Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 27 7:24 am)
If you're like me, you download a huge amount of resources, even though you have no current plans to use them. When I download something, I don't immediately put it into a library, and when I hit 600 MB in my download folder (and I'm pretty close right now), I'm going to burn a CD with the downloads. That way, if I need a particular item for a project on which I am working, I can unzip it from the CD.
I'm not sure you would want to access your library from CD anyway. Unless the technology has gotten a lot better since I bought my last CD drive, CDs are slower than hard drives.
jenny, I have a large number of CDs for Poser--including all my animals. As you say, they take up a huge amount of HD, so I burn everything on CD's. I also organize mine very well before I burn them--in fact I keep a folder on my desktop with organized folders within it (i.e., Vicky, P4 female clothing, clothing props, etc.) and then I burn it when it hits 600 MB and/or once a month. I label it and keep one CD folder with nothing but 3D CDs--pretty easy to find things that way. I also have a CD-RW for Mike and one for Vicky so I have all their 'things' together (they are also burned on a regular CD). When I need something I go through my CDs--if I'm looking for P4 female clothing, for instance, I open all those folders starting at the newest CD. When I find what I want, I just unzip it and load it into the library, geometry, etc. BTW, if the zip title isn't explanatory enough, I rename it in my 'saved' folder on my desktop. The folders are named by date I start them--so I always have a current folder there to download to all month. Diane
I do the same, except that I have a seperate CD for, say P4Fem Clothes, that I burn onto at least once a month, and then close when it is full and start another. I also have one that has the runtime folder the way I want it with just the basics (Vicky, Mike, and the stuff I always want to keep handy). Then, when I want something, I load it, and when runtime gets to outrageous proportions, I just delete the folder and copy the one I burnt, and I am ready to start again :0
I burn on CD also everything that I download, and I only keep in the library some of them, about 12 GIG. If you buy a mobile HD like from www.h45.com (there it is called quick drive) then you can have a 64 gig only for Poser stuff. You need to install Poser there. AT H45.com, they sale the case between $50 to $100 and you buy your physical HD from the store for about $150 and you get a good environment for Poser. For me Poser is on one of my HD and Poser Pro is on my mobile or quick drive.

the libraries of Poser fill a big amount of space in my HD. I want burn a CD with the libraries and I want that poser acces directly to the CD to use the libraries that there are in the CD.
