That would be a good tutorial project, unwrapping a human figure in Blender. If you could show me an example prefered layout for the map, I could write one for us. Like, where do artists prefer the seams to be? Inbetween the fingers? Back of the head or divide the head in half? Divide the body in half or unwrap it with one seam in back? Seperate the limbs or leave them attatched? ect...
Blender's unwrapping tools are very advanced compared to UVmapper (my opinion only, no offence intended).
It is odd that the obj is not loading for you. I have not yet found one that could not load into Blender. If it is legal, I would be happy to take a look at the .obj for you and get it into Blender, and supply you with the .blend. The obj specifications state that objects must be seperated by an 'o' and groups by a 'g'. Im sure all the data is in the file it might just have to be edited a little if it does not meet the obj specification requirements.
