Vue6 is a tad screwy at moment so that's probably it ;)
you don't need an uber card, though I'd recoomend one with 128+ RAM cause it helps with the OPEN GL stuff, if you've got tons of polys, meshes etc 
most recent cards have at least 128 video RAM if not more.
