Using smaller bucket sizes does not affect the quality of the render. The two other options do.
If turning down the bucket size does not help, you might want to render in several passes. Which means rendering the background first (set the foreground objects to invisible), then change all the background material to "shadow catch only" - there's a useful wacro in Poser 6/7 that'll do that for you. Render the foreground figures and composit this render with the background render in a 2D program (Photoshop, PSP, the Gimp).

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
