vinnie, it's free, stable, easy to use, stand-alone, starts from command line, saves wavefront.obj files, povray files and dxf. I used it in OS X, but I'm guessing there is a command-line interface in windows, which also uses java. the arbaro readme explains how to use it in some detail. it can make trees nearly as good as treepro IMVHO, which is somewhat more expensive, assuming they still sell it.
