Subject: Opinions on Bryce 6 Tutorial DVD

Speed44 ( ) posted Mon, 12 March 2007 at 1:31 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 9:19 AM

Just downloaded/installed 6.1 and would like to get up to speed asap. Is the Bryce 6 Tutorial DVD worth the time/money for learning 6.1?  It is currently on sale and I am tempted but would like some feedback.
TIA

I've seen it on the DAZ site and that's all I know of it. I personally found Bryce easy to get up to speed with, and when I started with it I had no experience with 3D apps other than CAD ones. For me I find Bryce easy to use, and there are many tutorials around and this forum. All my questions tend to be answered in some way. It is a difficult question to answer. If the DVD has animation how-to's, that might be worth it.. but I never had to use Bryce's animation features... Difficult question to answer. Hrm....

50% off - it is a great value even without it.

If you don't know the author: David Richmond aka Brycetech, who is also the authorin charge of  www.brycetech.com (now pointing to brycetech.daz3d.com afaik) - I've known BT for years, ever since he won the annual Golden Tori award in the category of Most Useful website. That was at the time when Amapi was at release 4.15 and he got Amapi v5 as a prize by the time the contest was over. He's won the GT award several years in a row. He's one of those icons. You can't think of Bryce without thinking of Brycetech. He's done great things for many many Bryce newbies.

There's also some tutorials we placed on the DVD, on using PD Pro with Bryce renderings and animations. I hope you like'em :-)

In fact today I'll be posting a new tutorial, showing how to composite a video over another with alpha channel in the frame sequence. It will be at http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/tuts/cryptonite

Oh! If Brycetech did it, then there's bound to be a bunch of nice treasures there. His tutorial section of his web site has a lot of good stuff. I remember a few posts ago he was talking something about a DVD, but didn't know it might have been this one or some other. I suppose it was this one. Yeah I might want to take a look at the DVD myself too.

And no, ppl, I don't know the real-life names of those who post here. This might have became obvious when Agent Smith wrote an article in a magazine and I didn't recognize the name. :-p

BryceTech is without doubt a master of the art. (Although he is probably a heretic too, I just can't prove it ......yet!)

Personally The First DVD is better and more explanitory than the second. It is longer and does a better job covering the small things. Both have additonal materials, objects and the whatnot that by itself makes it worth it. Even though I was already good at Bryce when I purchased the DVDs I was suprised to see additonal things that I had never heard of from Anywhere. I purchased mine on sale 50% off and with a Platinum Membership received 30% and then take off the $5 DAZ cradits you for each month I litterally only paid a few dollars each for the DVDs and That's the way to purchase stuff  ; ^ D Get either or both, you will not be disappointed!!!

the 2nd in the series (the b6 one) deals with animation mostly..but, you have to build a still before you can do any animation. ..so anything shown there will also work with animations in that I show how to do things like manipulate terrains to create details (like footprints or ripples in water).  #2 shows in detail how to get some "weather" into your scenes (like snow and rain) and lots of tips strewn throughout.

there are extras

and ya just cant forget the gallery, which is there to inspire and showcase our fellow brycers' work.

#3 in the series (the one Im working on now) is well underway and will contain lots of goodies (models, textures, bryce files) and more advanced topics as related to bryce...it should be out in a couple months as long as something doesnt happen to hinder my progress on it.  The gallery is done, the intro animation is mostly done, many models and bryce files are are done and the details for the tutes are laid out.

AND the lady you see beneath my nick at the left will be on the dvd (it wont be available any where else)

:)

Thanks to all who responded...

Is the first DVD still available and is it discounted?  If so, where?  And, are they available as a package?
