Forum Moderators: Staff
MarketPlace Showcase F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 6:56 pm)
deljs: I partially agree.
This is a commercial product, and as such it does not belong in this forum. I completely agree.
About the forum moderator, that's more complicated. UVDan is not a forum moderator for the Poser forum. If he were, I'd fully agree, a moderator should be VERY careful about expressing his own opinions in the forum(s) he moderates.
This leads to an interesting question. Should a forum moderator be held to the same posting restrictions that apply to his "own" forum(s), even when posting to other forums which he doesn't moderate? In other words, should UVDan's posts here be read as "just a member's post" representing his personal opinion, or as "a forum moderator's post" representing a Renderosity viewpoint?
This is tricky. It might be a good idea for the 'rosity staff to think about this, create or adapt some guidelines, and maybe adapt the software so that a forum moderator is only shown as forum moderator in the forums he/she actually moderates, and as a normal member when posting to another forum. If that is the outcome of the guideline discussion, that is.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
Actually, svdl, when I originally posted, I hadn't even noticed UVDan being titled a forum moderator. I was thinking of him as just another poster. I was referring to wheatpenny who is a respected mod for the Poser forum. I definitely agree with you on all points. In my estimation UVDan is as much a guest in this forum as you and I. However, as a mod on the same site, his comments do/should carry more weight. At the end of the day, the only thing potentially lost through any of this is credibility. As far as allowing blatant advertising in the midst of the Poser forum, I personally have nothing against it IF I know what I'm clicking on in advance. I prefer the way DAZ's commons works where commercial posts are marked as commercial. I can then choose in advance if I want to see it or not. I'd like to see R'osity add a checkbox by the Language, Violence, and Nudity Advisories for a Commercial posting. But without that, this should have been posted in the (virtually untravelled) Product Showcase as others have brought up. As an aside, I thought linking directly to competing stores was not allowed here. At any rate, my intent was not to gnarl on the mods or poserscience, but rather a call for parity regarding the ubiquitous TOS. Its kinda like George W Bush's abusive use of signing statements; setting a radically different standard for himself and his comrades than for the rest of us plebes.
deljs: I stand corrected. I totally overlooked wheatpenny's posts.
By the way, now that I have read them, they're exactly the style I expect from a moderator - neutral and factual.
UVDan: I certainly have no objections to the contents of your posts. It's your personal opinion (I happen to agree, but that's beside the point).
The point is, you're listed as a forum moderator. Should I read your post as a personal opinion, or should I read it keeping your role as moderator in mind? In this particular case, it's clear as glass - it's your personal opinion, posted in the role of Renderosity member.
Other situations might be less clear. I remember some vicious attacks on moderators back in the day when the OT forums still existed, and I am absolutely sure nobody wants that back.
So I think that when a moderator or other 'rosity official posts a personal opinion, from the role of Renderosity member, it should be abundantly and unmistakably clear that it's a personal opinion and does not represent a Renderosity viewpoint in any way.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
I don't really like him either, but I support him because the majority of American Muslims voted for him, so I support him partly as a show of solidarity with my fellow Muslims, but also to show that I appreciate the fact that American Muslims have finally started working with the system instead of complaining about it, so I choose to respect their choice as a way of encouraging this new trend in western Islam. This was the part I was referring to. Its not neutral on politics or religion. Still, its nothing evil. My point was that instead of posting his personal opinion on the subject, he should have been moving the violating thread to the correct location; then post away if desired. First a moderator, then an individual. I actually liked his other postings in this thread. It's just that allowing the commercialism in the Poser forum section is generally not tolerated, but here is a mod adding to it instead of warning and/or moving it. As I said, its not my site. Not an earth-shattering event - just a clear violation of the TOS; something which happens on R'osity every day, in one way or other.
I am not a Mod --
I sincerely miss Reagan.
That woman sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office. I've read sick horror stories in the past. Good thing that they were purely fantasy. Not real.
Let's see -- a repeat of 9/11 with Hillary or with Rudolph running things...........? Hill or "America's Mayor"? It's not a choice at all.
I still recommend Art Bell's radio show for those with a taste for such fantasies. Aliens and the paranormal.
Yup, the rich & elite have paid for the politician's rise - then they demand the return on their investment. [sarcasm] At least we have 2 whole ("serious") parties to choose between. And with the advent of pre-calculated voting...geez, we don't even need to show up at the polls. Pretty slick system we've got going here. Maybe we should force it on the world! [/sarcasm]

> Quote - I think you're all missing the point. This figure has no morphs. No way of moving the eyes. You really can't do anything with it...
We tried to make this clear on the product page:
First in the short description:
"The George W. Bush product is two products in one. The first is a prop head that attaches to the G2 Male. It does not have morphs or expressions. A morph pack and other add-ons will be released at a later date."
And then in the first paragraph of the detailed description:
"This is not a full-figure and requires the G2 Male. It is important to review the readme.txt file. The dumb prop fits to a G2 Male head and then turns normally. Other add-ons including morphs, lip syncing capability will be offered later as add-ons and customers who purchase this product will be given generous discounts for supporting the product development."
The morph pack is in development and will be available in the next 30 days worse case, but probably by the end of the month. That's why we priced the prop modestly as compared to similar products on other non-poser 3D model sites. We know Poser people want all the bells and whistles with morphs, but there are many people that can find great use for the product as is.
Anybody that was confused and wants a refund, no questions asked. We've found many uses for such this prop and we thought other people would to, especially when combined with the Oval Office, White House and then the full set of Business Clothing, with the Free White House Wardrobe for both the G2 Male and Female. It's not a full solution, but can be used for many illustrations and give us a starting point to expand the product line.
Thanks,
Poser Science
Thanks for the clarfication - I was seriously tempted to buy based on the first 2 pages here which says it was a figure. By figure I assume arm and legs, moving eyes etc etc,not just a head.
But reading the above and the product page, the price for a single static prop is a little too much for my tastes. More so if he'll be 'upgraded' later and you have to pay again.
Maybe if the price and spec is right in the future, or you only asked for $5 for the head, I may buy. But and no offence to anyone - but I'll be passing for now.
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
There's another problem with one of the renders in the post above. The woman behind the desk is smiling. She even looks.........friendly. Who could that possibly represent? No one in the current political landscape.
It's often been said that a nation tends to get the leadership that it deserves. If what's on tap right now represents "what we deserve" -- then it might be time to buy some property in the high mountains, and to start working on that underground survival shelter.
A windmill or two for power won't hurt. Perhaps it'll be possible to power a PC so as to keep right on rendering fantasies in Poser. Endless hours spent playing MahJongg might get boring after awhile. Cans of dehydrated vegetables might get boring, too. But.....going downtown in any major American and/or European city might become a risky proposition. You'll never know when it's time.
No morphs and you need another figure to make it work and, what if you dont have that figure? Not to be mean, but, who in their right mind (even a Bush hater ) would pay for this? Cant help but wonder why copyrights don't apply here? Nice to know you have Bush's permission to make a fig out of him. ;)
Copyrights essentially only apply to artwork & literature, not likenesses. You don't need permission to create & sell the likeness of an American public servant, as wheatpenny explained earlier in this thread. Bush is a valid target until he leaves public office. Buy the head now and you will also receive the unique opportunity to buy the morphs and phonemes later!
shrug Insofar as I know, Bush will always be a "valid target". Regardless of whether he's in or out of office. As with any public figure -- past or present. It's part of the price that a person pays for fame. Political cartoonists can still make satirical images of past presidents -- as well as of the current one.
Occasionally, a celebrity will sue over the misuse of their image. But it's legally "tough" for them to do -- and the burden of proof is definitely theirs to bear.
Sort of like the case of that New Zealand(?)-based website that mocks Tom Cruise. He hasn't been able to shut it down.
"dumb prop"
"needs another figure to make it work"
This is a giant step forward in realistic Poser figures!

Quote - the eyes and head don't move, and it doesn't change through morphing or other dials...
you know...there's plenty of Democrats that would consider it pretty lifelike...;) me so bad..;) j/k..;)
I'm sure that there are a lot of families in Gaza who would be at pains to disagree with you, especially after looking at the ballance in their bank accounts -now that Bush has had their bank roller hanged and buried.

@dphoadley --
These days, merely taking the fight to the enemy doesn't count for anything over here. We'd rather pretend that the enemy doesn't exist........and -- at the moment -- that's relatively easy to do in this country. We aren't currently getting rocketed by our neighbors on a daily basis. So we have no problems singing "Kum By Ya" while Iran's president announces his intentions to kill us all. You see: our elitists over here are smart enough to understand that he really doesn't mean the things that he's saying. Nobody could actually be that crazy. Nu-cu-laar weapons and all. Just let him have the Sudetenland......uh, I mean the old Persian province of Mesopotamia......and he'll be satisfied with that. Then we'll all have peace in our time.
Put a certain bottle-blonde behind the main desk, and such happy circumstances might just be possible. Especially to be felt in Israel. She's no friend of yours.
But I think that pakled was just being humorous in his remarks.

Thank you karen1573. dphoadley, you seem to misunderstand some key features of American politics. The differences between Democrats and Republicans is not much more significant than driving a Ford or a Chevy. They are on the same team, answering to the same powers. The differences are more about where the pork barrels go - who's friends and neighbors benefit. However, they all strive to please the same bosses (and it ain't the American people). It's really just a sham to make us (Americans) think we have freedom of choice. True democracy in the USA has been dead & buried for 100 years or so; probably more.

I agree with everything that you've said here.
The only problem is that the current political landscape in the U.S. is looking rather dismal. About the only canidate on the horizon who might actually be worth something is Rudolph Giuliani. And even he's got a lot of baggage that he's dragging around with him.
Frankly, at this point in time I am not hugely optimistic about where things are headed on the American political front. Not unless if something turns around in the next couple of years. At this point, NONE of the current crop of presidential hopefuls are persons of truly presidential stature. The only one that's a true leader is -- once again -- Giuliani. And he's got.....uh......an Israeli 'presidential problem', among other even worse issues dogging him.
BTW - I am a firm supporter of Israel. So we've got no debate with each other on that score. From an Israeli point of view (one more time), Giuliani is probably your best bet. He once had Yasser Arafat bodily thrown out of a UN function in NYC. Calling him some not-so-nice names in the process. Unlike Hill -- who publicly hugged YA's wife after Mrs. Arafat had given a speech accusing Israel of using poison gas on Palestinian kids.
If that one gets into office -- then all bets are off on the Middle Eastern situation.

Unfortunately, all this talk about politics is clouding the real issue. No matter who is elected, they are going to have to balance a domestic policy with a foreign policy better. For example, the DOJ is struggling to balance criminal investigations with counterterrorism. Whatever your opinion of the war is, the fact is that our resources are drying up. No opinions about each of the 2008 candidates changes that fact.Attached Link: Political Science Images with a Big Question
Now that this is a commercial thread (as well as political), here's a Flash Presentation of the Political Science products we're offering:It's about 8.5 MB.
Thanks for all the input on developing the product line. We've added a couple of new items based on the discussion.

Hi all,
We've gotton a few private messages that ranged from we're too serious to things we won't repeat. The slideshow's point was to demonstrate the power of imagery in communicating your beliefs and view of the world. What's important to remember is that for every person that's viewed the slideshow, there is a different interpretation of what it means.
Two people from different cultures can look at George Bush, or the White House, or the planet blowing up centered in the Middle East and have completely different interpretations of what it means. Same goes for nude images of fairys, etc. etc.
Try watching again through the eyes of your polar opposite, politically, religiously or geographically. You'll see something completely different.
There are universal symbols that have very common meanings, but its very culturally based, or politically based and so on.. Advertisers, artists and film makers use these techniques all the time. We don't think we communicated anything but a neutral view of the world. But it did demonstrate the power of Art as Voice, not just with what we do, but with what you all do.
And to show you we're not so serious, we're cooking up something a little lighter ;)
Thanks,
Poser Science
And yes, the prop works with M3 but you'll need to set it up manually.
3. Manually position the head in place and size it.
3. Select the head of M3 or other figure..
4. From the top menu bar, go to Object> Replace Body Part with Prop.
A dialog pop up will ask you to select a prop. Select George Bush.
Hi there,
We're planning on releasing an expansion to GW on April 1, 2007. This will be a free upgrade to anybody that purchased the product. We will decline to provide details about the nature of this release. Hope you understand.
We'll also be releasing some Geopolitical macro environments over the next 60 days.
Thanks for your support. There is, of course, a money back guarantee on these and any Poser Science product.
Best,
Poser Science

Hmm..a pretty good likeness. I can envision an awful LOT of very "politicaly incorrect " renders with this figure :) Seeing we're on the subject of political figures..how about his arch enemy, old Osama ??
