Subject: Lapping water

Hi all

I am trying to create a image where the water plane is gently lapping against a concrete wall i have read the thread about creating the effect of wetness on the concrete but just how do i create the impression that the water plane is actually impacting on the wall e.g. spray 
The attached file is a first run at the type of image i want to create but i am really bothered about the water.

any help would be much appreciated

The best way I can think of, at least in Bryce, would be to use a terrain, rather than a flat plane with a water texture.  You could easily blend your mist to obscure the far edges of the "water" terrain so that you wouldn't have to alter your composition at all. This example uses two identical terrains, one for the waves, and the other, which has been "clipped" in the terrain editor and assigned to a frothy mat, for the crests. Very nice pic BTW.

I used a bark texture from Lemog's free textures and converted it to greyscale in an image editor, a technique I learned from Tom Marlin. Here's an example which you can feel free to use, or at least experiment with if you like. Just click the pic and it will show the 512x 512 image. I applied a slight gaussian blur after converting it to greyscale, before importing into Bryce's terrain editor in the picture section. Then all you have to do is scale the resultant terrain down a bit on the Y axis and texture it as you like.
