This is definitely correct for Poser 5.
For Poser 6, a lot of people found this wasn't necessary (but I found performance poor if they weren't).
Poser 7 seems to have improved the searching algorithm more, but it's probably still a case of YMMV.

 

I found that it works best if you install them in the same runtime as the products which reference them.
