Here's a really quick texture I made.  Colours aren't exactly right, and I'm sure the head isn't either...this is just to give a general idea of the pattern.  Although the diamonds weren't that fat (the texture stretched).  But the middle third of the body was quite fat (don't know if that's because he'd just had a good meal)...it wasn't a sleek, thin snake.
