IMO the real trouble with Windows isn't this or that, it's the whole thing. An OS should be an OS, not a media player, a disc burner, a Web browser, bla bla bla. Obviously MS just wants to wring cash out of their monopoly position.
I wish the gov't would break up their monopoly (one of the few things gov't is good for), so the software industry would have some breathing room to collaborate on an actual OS, one that handles files, drivers, etc., properly, and leaves the bells and whistles to individual vendors.
