The Bryce manual is useful. I agree, at $30 a cartridge, it's a lot of ink. Just print what you need in terms of chapters. Over time the whole manual will probably be printed.

2. At the top, that GUI.. next to Edit there's an arrow (triangle) on the right of Edit. That'll bring up the Material menu. 

Almost every bump, circle, shape in a Bryce menu will probably be something that will have lots of settings behind it.
