I'd not entered a Windows PW either, but it seems (according to the linked XP Tips site) that one of the recent XP updates modifies the pgm to require a stop at that dialog box during boot-up.   Could no longer  just hit the ON button & walk away until done booting --- not a big hassle , but annoying none the less.   Glad to have it back to normal once again.   :-)
