I actually live in the south of Manchester, in Cheshire, so I like to think of myself of being on the posh side of Manchester! Talking of Glaswegian, that sure is an amazingly strong accent. A friend at work is from Glasgow so I too now understand some of their sayings. He tells me that he waters it down for us here, apparently when he goes back to Glasgow & sees his mates he says I wouldn't understand a word of it!
