Don't you just love days like that..... almost like root canal at a malicious dentist's office. Glad things came out ok, though.
BTW.... if you're using XP, I'd recommend using recovery points. The downsides of that are that you lose everything between the recovery point, and when you tell it to recover, and each recovery point takes a certain amount of HDD space. I set a point each day... after a week, if everything seems ok, I delete all but the most recent.... it has saved my fundament more than once. Lou.

I've set up my testing computer now. But I'm here at my "office" which often tends to be one of the many coffeeshops around town. No VPN or anything like that, and I'm warry about doing remote desktop or VNC.... for hacking reasons.... although the VPN would be most secure. Anyway....
The restore point thing, yeah, I should try something like that. I guess time to zip and offload some Bryce files here to reclaim space on the laptop is in order.
Loosing data ain't cool. You can be sure I made several backups of those files. ;-)
Remote desktop.... Yeah, me, too..... I don't even allow it on my "main" sys. Paranoid?... well, I suppose, but I haven't had a major virus, either..... One thought: one thing that I do.... you know those "music CD's"?... the little ones, that're only 3"? well... those things hold one hell of a lot of data, and they're small.... and inexpensive, too. Funny thing, I was able to "recycle" the floppy holder that was sitting gathering dust... it works just fine for those mini's, jewel-case and all. Lou.

This is really OT, but I just had to tell someone.
Oh I just had a big scare. For months I've been working on a program and it got finished Friday. So today I was doing the setup project, testing and deleting/uninstalling the setup project. Everything was fine, but then suddenly something goes wild without me knowing and I uninstall yet again, return to the setup project to find that a critical .DLL was uninstalled too. And I had just cleared out the recycle bin. No idea why it got uninstalled that time when it didn't previously.
So I spent 3 hours in a semi-panic state, downloading two undelete type programs. One worked really well but to do anything required a program key. There was a freeware one I tried next which was very crippled, but it worked (do a google search for unerase something and it'll be listed as a freeware if you need). But the next step required the .DLL to be registered in a certain way with the OS... Well, I found out how to do it and in short I've recovered... but oh man... what a day! >whew!<
