My wife is a programmer - one rule of thumb she and her friends all say is they're hesitant to buy anything with "1.0" as it's name.
I don't hate new technology at ALL - I just wanna hear from others that bugs have been addressed (they don't have to be fixed entirely, just at least attempts to mend) before I spend the money.
