So V4 has been out for a while now ... does anyone know when we'll get a new M4?

silverthornne ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 7:06 AM

Do we need one? I think Apollo does a heck of a job taking its place, and with DAZ's wonderful new "ExP Technology" I think I'd rather not see a new DAZ release...

udgang99 ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 7:32 AM

Personally I'm really tired of M3, and I have only just recently discovered Apollo.

What is this "ExP Technology" you talk about...?

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 7:34 AM

There's too many bloody figures anyway IMO!!
Got enough for now, another figure means more cash going out and I spend enough on this obsession anyway!!

I'm sure DAZ is planning an M4.
"Soon".
Which in DAZ time can mean anytime before the next Millenium ;)

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 10:17 AM

I will probably be a year from the release of V4 before we get M4, at least. That is the usual timeframe and it seems to be holding true.

BastBlack ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 10:39 AM

No word on M4. Some have projected a June release. We'll see.

V3 to V4. There are some things I like and some I don't. What I like best is V4 poses the best.

I would like M4 if his body shape is similar to M3 but poses better than M3.

imho, You can never have too many pretty faces in your Runtime.  ;)

aeilkema ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 11:12 AM

Since V4 may turn out to be DAZ's least popular figure, there may not be a M4 at all. Until now, whenever DAZ released a new figures most jumped unto the bandwagon. With V4 most seem to stay in the fence. While DAZ does a lot of effort to push V4, she hasn't taken off yet, so you may need to wait a while longer for M4. Once V4 has been milked enough, the next one will come on the scene. They also may want to perfect V4 first, before releasing M4. At the moment the market also seems to be a bit saturated with (new) figures, people may not be able and willing to support another one.

Of course all of this is pure speculation, there has been no word from DAZ about M4 or if there even will be one.

Where did the results of V4's popularity come from? Yes people have complained, however I look at what is selling, and it's V4, V4, and more V4. But Aiko has staying power. She is a touch act to follow. I generally don't buy things for the girls, but Aiko is just so darn cute, how could I resist all the cool products from some of best clothing makers? ;)

Apollo is a great figure, no doubt.

I just have daydreams of M4 being basically M3, but better at posing and having  wonderful shoulder that M3 could only dream of. ;)
And then when M4 comes out, I will lop off his head and replace it with M3's!  lol
Judging by my reaction to V4's head, I strongly suspect I will not like anything about M4's face. M3's face and all his morphs is a tough act to follow, and then add to that Apollo, and the bar is raised quite high, imho.

Isn't it a teeny bit delusional to believe that Daz won't ever release another male figure? Or that it wont have any merit beyond what's available now? Apollo's a fantastic figure but  its a great big world out there. OK I'll get off my soapbox. LOL!

kathym ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2007 at 8:24 PM

What could they possibly do with M4 that hasn't been done on lets say - James, Koji, Kelvin and Apollo? isn't there a V4male yet? They made that V3male morph pack which was .. a waste, IMHO, because all the clothes had to be editted to fit the figure frame.

I think its time to stop making new figures and start making a conversion tool that with one click can convert, for instance M3's Hardcore outfit to fit Luke. Or at least intigrate it with the next version of poser so when you click conform - it actually conforms. LOL.

Just enjoying the Vue. :0)

There is Vittorio 4 by pdxjims and he's just released the Vittorio 4.1 update to coincide with the Victoria 4.1 update.  So, yea, there is a V4 Male of sorts out there with LOTS of free clothing to go with him, some pose packs and some skins as well.  😄  You can pick him up at PoserPros and you can get the free stuff from OKCRandy.com forums.

Ditto.

I went nuts when the first Aiko came out. and I still treasure the Yuka modification of V2... you don't want to know how loud I yelped in delight when I first saw A3.

It's good mesh, I agree. I dunno how to phrase this in a PC way, so I won't - apologies in advance to whomever gets offended: Apollo Maximus proves that it really does take a gay man with solid mesh talent, to really appreciate the male figure enough to build one right. After all, if you don't have a passion for the subject, how can the results show any?

The mesh's author may have (Hrm, how do I put this?) 'inter-personal troubles' on occasion IMHO, but I have nothing but respect for the technical results of his work. Apollo raises the bar for M4, whenever it comes out. Makes for good competition and as a result better products overall, no?

I believe that DAZ will step up to the plate and put out competitive results in M4 - they may be superior, they may fall short. But either way, they will have to really work at it.

(Hell, I would've been perfectly happy if they had simply expanded on the V3 Male morphs instead of going for a whole other mesh in M3...)

I love Vittorio for V3, but he has the same problem as the V4 Vittorio. Wardrobe Wizard doesn't recognize him like it does the V3 male.

I will buy M4 when he comes out. I'm not even going to kid myself about it. I'm a sucker for a pretty man.

As for the V4 popularity contest issue....... whats UP for sale, and whats actually selling is what we don't actually have the information about.  Sure there's a lot of stuff out there, but that doesn't mean anyone's buying it ...... or loving V4.

Granted people like her, I, however don't.  I did think V3 was "bad in the face" with the plethora of unrealistic pinched nonexistent nose options..... but v4 is even MORE recognizeable, no matter what the morph.  Again, its the eyes.  And, this isn't to begin a whole v4 fiasco on popularity....  but so far i havent seen the "masses" go after her like they did V3 by a longshot.

M3 still, IMHO doesn't suck.  He never did.  He could use help tho lol.  I wont be buying any M4......... if they are smart they'd market him as a totally DIFFERENT figure.

BastBlack ( ) posted Thu, 03 May 2007 at 3:01 PM · edited Thu, 03 May 2007 at 3:02 PM

I wish there were a new Poser User Survey to find out what figures people are using.
Last time, people were suprised to see how strong Miki was. I think the survey results led to more products being made for her.

I really like the newer realistic Aiko characters. I never like anime, although my daughter loves it. You can actually can fit M3's clothes on Apollo by scaling a little and hiding body parts. Just as long as you don't muscle Apollo up too much. Let's face it, how often do you see men in anyone's renders? Very seldom. Caneithen does wonderful men in historic and pirate scenes. I would like to see men used more often. Maybe I'll use a man tonite, LOL!

Oh, I think that V4's popularity is perfectly safe.  And I fully expect that we'll see a V5, V6, V7.......and so forth........provided that the world doesn't blow itself up first.  And assuming that DAZ will always call their flagship female model 'Victoria'.  Brand-name recognition & loyalty count for a lot in marketing.

But of course: if someone else manages to come out with a truly wonderful/revolutionary female figure, then all bets are off.  Even though Victoria's huge built-in lead would be a serious challenge for any newcomer to attempt to overtake.

In the meantime, I wouldn't lose any sleep over worrying about V4's 'lack of popularity'.  Two or three complaining forum  threads don't mean beans in terms of market share.  Or in terms of the sales figures for V4 character packages.  You can always find someone who's unhappy.

Those who are happy typically don't have much to say.  But you tend to hear from the unhappy.

M4?  I'm sure that he'll be released.  And when he is released: he'll be about as popular in relation to V4 as M3 has been to V3.  Or as any other male figure for Poser is in relation to the various female figures.  It goes with the territory.

Just to chime in as well, I'm planning on sitting out the next Millennium Male release whatever it's name designation. Since 2001, I bought Michael 2... never used him. I bought Michael 3... never used him. I bought David... never used him. See a pattern here? (I never bought Hiro because I knew I'd never use him.) I guess what I'm saying is that if or when Daz releases Michael 4, it really isn't going to matter much as I'm sure that M4 will get the same limited support from 3rd-party merchants as his previous versions received. I just don't think it will be worth the investment to me this time around as I'll probably never use him. But, that's just my opinion.

Dude - lighten up already. I spoke an honest overall positive opinion, you come up with some conspiracy theory? Seriously, nobody is stalking you, nor cares to. The "group" you refer to has their attention firmly wrapped around the recent pet food recalls (and is a source of very useful info concerning it). David always seems to look more handsome then M3... M3's character features end up looking so much harsher, giving him a lot of 'the bad guy look'
one of the examples:  http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=29297
Even without the facial eprssions, I find the character on the right (based on david) much more handsome then the one on the left (based on Michael).

K. Obviously this is going to be a life-long pursuit of yours. Tom, most people don't like strangers to insult them. I don't know you. I don't want to know you. That may seem controversial I know, but believe it or not people tend to respond badly when someone they don't know brags about trolling them on one site and then claims to have no problems, and promises to to stop ( for 5 years now) here.

Tom, obviously Renderosity staff is willing to give you a lot of room where insulting me is concerned. If you are going to stop, then stop talking about it and stop. Every time is supposedly your last. No little personal sides, no jokes, no jabs, no nothing. Just stop if you mean it. Don't stir up a reaction and then yell, "He's proving me right!". Whatever you problem is, get over it. Period.

I don't think that is an unreasonable request  in a software topic forum. If you want to talk Poser or Apollo fine. I, personally, should not be apart of your topic, and most certainly not in this one. And I think we all know why you chose those words above in this of all threads. Because you wanted me to come respond to you, which I have. There you should be happy now.

You're getting all bent out of shape about what is in reality a minor part of a very large compliment. Dunno why you tend to fly off the handle like that so often (esp. since I'm not casting insults here), but let's put it behind us. My PM and email (my 'nym at comcast) will suffice for any further discussions about these interpersonal issues you seem to experience. We all have flaws, you included... admit and improve, I always say. Now, let's get back to the main topic, shall we? M4. Not sure if the V4 updater thingy (to add/subtract morphs on-the-fly) is a trial balloon or a taste of what's to come - I've been gone and away from DAZ for too long to know for sure. If it is a taste of what's to come, it'll likely be included. Re-stating and expanding on what I've said earlier, I would rather hope that DAZ make a Male morph of the V4 mesh, and this time actually support the thing. Don't even bother with an M4. Then they could make a ton of unisex clothing (sweatpants/jeans/shoes/t-shirts/etc) with all the appropriate morphs, and get a lot of built-in support for both figures as a bonus. That way male-specific clothing would be the only requirement beyond that. Speakin' of which, I heard rumor that Apollo has a female morph... 'zat true? Couldn't find anything offhand, and it would be interesting to see if that could be expanded upon as well. Going this route on both figures would eventually save a whole lot of strain on the ol' disk resources, no? > Quote - note to mods: nice job. very effective. keep up the great work.

Indeed - civil and open speech is a beautiful thing in motion, IMHO. I just wish there wasn't so much talk by certain other participants about wanting men - it's starting to creep me out. :p PS: no kitten pics, please. I have two cats who would promptly hiss at them, and a dachschund who would bark her head off in my monitor's general direction. Gets noisy awful quick, y'know? /P
