he can legally bone and rig the models himself, for his own use. so it ain't hopeless IMVHO. he can also ask somebody who already owns the game/models to bone and rig them, but said person can't distribute the rigged models legally, unless they are distributed via encoded file that requires the recipient to own the source files. I ain't a lawyer.
