Learning poser is trial and error IMO.  You can read the manual but unless your ability to retain TONS of information is unsurpassed - it wont matter.   Just decide something you want to do and do it.  When you hit a road block ask about it.  Learn as  you go.

V2-3-4 are models for use in poser.  They are sold at www.daz3d.com.
You can find many characters for use with those models in the marketplace here.    You can get Apollo - a male model for free (Im sorry I don't have the site link for that but you can find about 2000 banners for it in peoples signatures if you look around.)

My advice:
Start small
Learn the file system/structure for poser
Dont give up!
