its not the shelf life but rather the amount of read-writes, I believe its somewhere in the 100,000's, before failure.

However Compact Flash memory for some reason is more prone to failure, I found this the hard way when a 2GB Compact Flash (Sandisk) failed completly and after doing some reading, it was recommended to once in a while to Re-Format the Compact Flash to refresh it.
