I do not have Max, but my guess is that this has to do with local and global coordination systems in Max.

But it is not a big deal, you can reset and center the pivot point in Vue. Select your object, go to the middle tab in the upper right corner (numerical input) and select there the last of the icon row on the left border of this window. There you have several options, one is reset pivot point.
