By all means have comments, good and constructive....but to just choose if they like what they see by giving it a recommendation star would help people just browsing the galleries, to see if the images are worth clicking on.
At the moment, I have on average 25-30 images a day to comment on just from favourites. I can't comment on every image but I try  not do the "copy and paste" replies that I see a lot of.
