Subject: Possible P7 bug....revisited :P HELP is in order here!

cyberscape ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2007 at 2:28 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 3:07 AM

First off, I love Poser 7!! This latest installment is definitely worth the money! It runs exceptionally well even on my old dinosaur (2ghz Celeron w/768mb RAM and WinXP). Even firefly actually 'flies' now! Impressive!

However, as previously posted :

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2697715

I've discovered a VERY unsettling problem!  I thought I fixed the problem but,

After working perfectly for the past several days, I opened P7 about a half-hour ago and got a lovely surprise, as shown below. I also included my folder tree just in case I've installed something wrong (I doubt that but I am human after all).

Now, if anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, knows how to fix this...PLEASE respond because, as of right now, P7 is completely useless to me (which is NOT an option)!

On a side note, my previous post on this WAS pretty silly (comes from watching too much Benny Hill/South Park). Still, it concerns me that at least 64 people didn't seem to care

So folks, what will YOU do the next time you open P7 and see this?

Rename or delete the library_prefs.xml file and see if that helps (c:documents and settings[user]Application Dataposer 7). Or try deleting more preference files (see attached link).

Looks like you deleted the Download folder. If you deleted it, just put em back in there.

Cyberspace--

The image you posted doesn't show what is going on in the subfolders of the Runtime folder. It could be that magoo is correct, I don't know if Poser will run without the download folder, for all I never use it, I've never deleted it.

Also, is your active poser content in the Poser Goodies or New Poser 2007 folders? Is that where your content is, or is it in subfolders of the Poser 5Runtime or Poser 7Runtime?

@ Dizzi - Thanks for the link. Believe it or not, I checked in both locations that EF specified and apparently my library_prefs.xml has been deleted all by itself. Huh? Kinda strange...

@magoo - Replacing the download folder didn't work either. Thanks for that advice though!

@kalon - I see your point here.  New Poser 2007 holds all of the latest freebie downloads that I haven't installed yet. 2BURN is where the freebie zips go after install for archiving to CD or DVD.
Poser Goodies is where I keep 3ds, bvh and  unmatted texture files. As for active content, I have that under both Poser 7Runtime and Poser 5Runtime ,People, Staging, Poses and Hair, Clothing, and My Stuff. NOTE: under Poser 5 that's SIX separate runtimes. And I am definitely certain that the substructure of these runtimes is correct, as Poser 5 never complained about finding anything.

So...anywho...my next step is probably going to be a fresh install of P7 since it literally isn't working right now :P Another thing I will try is to build new runtimes within P7 rather than importing. See if that kinda babying will work for it the way it did for P5.

All that said, I still love P7. Kinda how some folks still love their spouses even though they drive them bonkers! ;)

I'd suggest to search for "library_prefs.xml" first, it must be somewhere ;-) And if you really want to reinstall, then don't forget that Poser pre SR1.1 will delete the whole Poser 7 folder including the runtime folder when you're uninstalling it. So if there's anything you installed to the Poser 7 runtime, better move it somewhere else first.

Sigh. Ain't user-friendly programming cool....
