No. 

universal poses converted from one figure work just the same as the original pose when applied to that figure.

in my experience universal poses applied to other figures are closer to the intended results than applying a non-universal pose to a figure other than the one intended. I have also had better luck with Universal pose than with Puppet master, bearing in mind that i am usually trying to get a pose for Luke/Laura Matt/maddie from an adult pose or from each other (luke to matt or matt to luke etc.)
