While I can't lend much to what it takes to make hi-res texturs, or using Bryce with Poser (too impatient for Bryce's painfully slow rendering engine), I do have a good link for hair textures (transmap, et al). Check out Yamato and Kozaburo's tutorial. It's excellent, and seeing as how Kozaburo makes some of the finest hair models and textures, I'm pretty sure this technique works. :)
