I imagined it might be in the "help" section, I hate to give the impression that I don't even look for myself before asking - but I always do.  
Unfortunately my carrara "help" file seems to be bugged, wont open - I know I need to reinstall probably to get it right again and have just been avoiding doing that.

The tutorials I was referring to - seem to be the only ones that exist on the specific subject I was looking for (modeling clothing).  

I did get the series by Mark B, and began going through them as well  (the only ones I could find at the time.  I got stuck on those though and frustrated at the "wine glass" tut.  When he begins making the glass he says "some things you learn better by just watching "  but I watched him 50x and have no clue what he is doing.  So I had thought I might go back to those tuts once I had learned more basics.

~edit~  I found the PDF and was able to open it directly.  It does mention the word "slice" a few times.  Unfortunately none of those times simply show which tool it is and how to use it.
