My default browser is Opera, and things like that open fine in it - however I remember having to do some fiddling to make that happen. There's a similar option in Firefox. Go to Tools > Options (in Firefox 2, anyway) and on the Main tab, click the Check Now button. If FireFox isn't your default browser, it will ask if you want to make it so. Worth a try.
