Yay! that works better but isn't the end all. I experimented and, yes, the dot will restore the camera and director angles if the the previous scene had the dot set originally.
I tried this. I opened bryce and it opened my saved default as desired. I added a different sky, changed a couple camera settings (dotting them as I went). I changed the the infinite plane mat and saved the entire scene to a folder. Now when I decide to start all over with a new project and select "new document" I get a blank scene with one infinite plane and sky. Except the sky is that of the last scene saved and plane is the old out-of-box mat. Also all of the camera dots of the previous scene is still there.
Your advice is a help though. I allows a quick way to reset the camera squared along the x,z axis which I prefer.
