 I don't know if you are using C5Pro or standard but "Extract along" in the vm room is like a slice tool , this is in C5Pro. Also you can use the Add point tool(V)  were you want the slice to be , you can set the points at 1/4,1/3, 1/2  or unconstrained along each line segments to form a continuous slice.
  Also , you can use the Boolean/cut tool to slice objects although this does destroy parts of the mesh when you may not want it too.
