Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
main reason for favouring OS X is the lack of viruses, trojans, worms, RATs, rootkits, etc. there are far more that affect XP and vista. poser (for me at least) has been unstable since P5, and given the comparative lack of poser-related utilities for OS X, there's little or no poser-related advantage IMVHO. however, the new machines will boot into either OS X, Xp, or some versions of vista, hence if ya buy a mac, ya can still use some windows versions.
i use intel mac. i keep an old PC networked to the mac so i can use shaderworks and clother which see my poser disks across the network just fine, i could load windows onto my lovelly intel mac but i don't want to do this, poser 7 works well on my intel mac love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
It renders considerably slower on the PowerMac, I admit so I usually set up scenes on the PowerMac and do the final renders on the IntelMac. But Poser 7 does work on my PowerMac. Just renders slooooowly. :)

what does obj stomper do? I've never heard of it. Love esther

I haven't tried running STOMP under virtual PC, but I bet it would work fine. Should work without problems in Boot Camp to. It's a pretty simple app, but a godsend for your renders. STOMP is a Windows app by Spanky that basically optimizes your objs. Have you sat staring forever at your render window while it "adds objects" ? If so, you need to STOMP those objs. bB
does it permanently alter the .obj file and is it reduced in quality? love esther

Poser's multi-threaded rendering is limited to 4 threads, so having a dual quad-core machine isn't any advantage with Poser (1 thread on each core). Other apps may not have the same limit, you'd have to see docs for each product.
Some very interesting information is going on here I bet a lot of people will find something they didn't know such as STOMP for optimizing your obj files.
I am now 95% down the road to buy an Intel Mac. I have heard that Poser runs slower on a Power Mac and faster on an Intel Mac. What platform I wonder do the folks in the film studios use if they do use Poser?
Nobody has said anything about colour rendition differences if any, between the two platforms. I suppose there aren't any are there?
Thanks to those who have taken the time to answer this post.
Well I have poser 6 on my PC and poser 7 on my intel mac. Poser 7 on the mac is very much faster than my PC poser 6 but that probably doesn't mean much as they are different programs. They render the same looking pics. Love esther

I am very interested to hear from professional graphic people or amatures who use Poser with an Apple Power Mac or the new Intel Macs such as the dual quad core.
I personally use a PC but I am seriously thinking of getting a Mac too as I have had some experience with the Mac Operating System and I would like to hear about your experiences and advice using Poser on a Mac and why you might favor the Mac over the PC.
