It sure doesn't look like there are lights in all of them, either. The ones near the window should be making a blazing light on the nearby wall.
And you know if you DO get them below the fixtures and they shine on the ceiling, that's not going to look real at all. Recessed lighting cannot directly light the ceiling AT ALL. In a room such as that, the ceiling is lit by bounced light from the rest of the room, or from light coming through the window.
I would place spot lights at each fixture, since they form a cone in real life. Then I'd use IBL to take care of the rest, or maybe one soft upward spotlight without shadows.
