yeah, bill, that's what i suspected. it was the angle of incidence, and not inverse r-squared drop-off. that's why any surface normal to the vector of the light from a default poser point lite has the same apparent brightness, no matter how near or far it is. but once the angle is changed from 90 degrees, the surface will start to appear less bright in poser.
