Point one: Bottom Panel, to the right - "Transparent display of sub-selection" is where you can turn the transparency on/off (Page 275 in the handbook)
Point two: Upon creation of the cube but before validating it you can set the tesselation level in the Properties box (Page 82 in the handbook)
