The big thing that Hex offers that I was wanting is the ability to have the model Apollo there in the scene while I model around him.  Apparently there is nothing I can do in Carrara to freeze him and keep myself from selecting him while I try to model.  That's not so bad in big parts, but with the details it gets frustrating.
