Subject: Alternative Method of Importing Poser Figures?

Tomsde ( ) posted Wed, 11 July 2007 at 6:48 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 2:13 PM

My computer is in the shop having Vista taken off and XP put back on and I was wondering about alternate methods of importing Poser figures instead of importing Poser files.  I want to install Vue 5 Infinite and Poser 7, but not reinstall Poser 6.  Has anyone gotten good results with using other file formats, if so which ones and what properties need to be selected to get good results.

I want to wait on Vue 6 Infinite until all the patching is done and P7 imports work properly.

Um.. wouldn't that be the Siggraph promise of Vue7I? (Snicker!)

Perhaps I'll just have to install Poser 6 again, at this rate Poser 6 will always be with me.  Or I might simply take a chance and try Vue 6.

Might want to consider V6I if yer gonna upgrade.. painting ecosystems is a hoot, and is probably mty favorite new feature in the Vug 6XX cycle.

If you're dead set on not using Poser import, try using the Rhino OBJ export python script for Poser. (available as a download from E-Frontier)

The script exports your entire Poser scene as a "Rhino Enhanced" OBJ file along with textures. Rhino OBJ's can be read like regular OBJ's, but they also support things like transparency mapping.

If I do it that way, I usually load the file into Deep Exploration first, and convert it to a 3DS file. Since the exporter copies all the texture files into the same folder as the OBJ, I usually take the opportunity to reduce any outrageously large image files, as well.

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!
