hi i am new to poser and today attempted my first bump map i used a greyscale version of the original face texture and it caused black marks around the nose and eyes.

I hope some one here knows what the problem is and i thank you in advance!

Yep.ย  Your bump value is too high.ย  Reduce it to about 1/10th of its current value and try again.

And it's inverted in some parts. Like that pimple seems to be going into the skin rather then out...

try shading rate = 0.01, or restarting poser and trying the render again.

Have you tried plugging it into the displacement map node instead?

thanks for all your help! i relised the problem was the amount i was using...#newbie mistake alert#

i didnt relise you could type in your value rather than using the wheel(which increses and decreases in 0.010 each notch). Once i figured that out i could change the amount to less than 0.010 and it looks cool at around 0.006.

Thanks again guys your were very helpful and speedy replies!

would anybody mind reviewing my render and letting me know what they think. i need some constructive criticism so dont hold back haha

Bump and displacement are at 0 with black, not gray. The idea that gray is neutral keeps getting repeated (just saw it today) and that is incorrect.

The problem you had was that with a modest amount of bump essentially everywhere (gray) the creased surfaces crossed over each other.

If you're using a bump where 50% gray is supposed to mean no bump, (as in many other apps) then you must use a math node to subtract .5 from it first.

And yet another. I spent a lot of time showing how this works in that thread.
