Subject: Weird thing happening with V4 Bridal clothes

egaeus ( ) posted Sat, 04 August 2007 at 7:09 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 2:08 PM

I recently purchased jasmina's Bridal outfit and found that it is doing something strange and I don't know why.

Before I describe the problem, I should state that I am using Poser 4.  Although the outfit is meant to be used in later versions of Poser, I have been using V4 clothing in P4 previously and had no problems.  This is the the only set of models that I have had this particular problem with since starting with Poser six years ago.

Upon fist installing the set, I could get every article of clothing to appear normally except the dress.  I could import the dress' .obj file, but that's not particularly useful since it has no morphs or anything.   When I would try to get the dress to show up, nothing would appear in the window and the program would hang. Clicking the mouse would make the Main Camera window pop up, and then pressing "enter" to make that go away would crash the program.

After the first time I did this, none of the other clothing items would appear in the window again.  Selecting any of them would leave the window empty and cause the program to hang and crash.  I tried removing the .rsr files in the Gemoetries folder which sometimes cause problems with things loading, but that didn't work.  I thought perhaps it was a memory issue, but restarting the program or restarting the computer and running only Poser did not work.

I don't expect some miraculous fix here.  I'm just curious as to what is going on, especially since the majority of the clothing items appeared normally the first time I used them.

It might use shaders which aren't available in Poser 4 from what I understand.  So maybe that is the problem?

Can shaders be part of the clothing...?

No.  They are a material room thing.

You may want to contact the merchant and ask them. You may either need to go up to at least Pro Pack or Poser 5, or ask for a refund or store credit.

I contacted the merchant but haven't heard anything back from her yet.

I was going to ask for a refund, but the policy seems to be only that money will be refunded if there is a problem with the item itself.  I know that I'm taking a gamble when I buy things not specified for P4--although nearly everything I've bought in the past has worked fine, including clothing and scenery.  If I don't hear back from jasmina, I'll try again, then contact the marketplace reps.

The dress is dynamic which means it won't work in P4 at all.  It's not a figure but, rather a prop so you'll have to move up to at least P5 or, as Acadia said, request a refund because this one isn't going to work in P4.

If you want to upgrade to at least Poser 5, you can get a new copy here for $50.00

But even a dynamic figure would show up in the window.  It just wouldn't do anything.  I guess that's what puzzles me.

And why would all of the other items have appeared normally in the first place and conformed perfectly well and then later not appear?

Hmmm, it states "conforming"

I don't know. Wait for her to contact you and ask her if she knows what the problem is.

You might try reinstalling the package and maybe resetting Poser to factory specs to see if that helps.

EDIT:  It sounds like you can't use this in Poser 4. I saw this in the MP ad:

Quote - Notes for customer: Figures must be rendered to see real texture map effects. Preview screen may not show all complex definitions of the Map nodes. Firefly renderer is advised with ray tracing function to have best rendering results and uncheck Use External Binary Morph Target option in the Poser Preferences menu to solve possible saving problems because of the Poser 7.0 bug. Figures are tested with Poser 7 in PC environment. Poser 5 may not have all features supported by this figure like auto morphing.

Yes, the dress is not dynamic, but a conforming figure.  In fact, from experience, I look for the words "dynamic clothing" before getting something because I know such clothing is useless to me.  I recently got another outfit from RunDNA in which the morphs don't appear to work, but the item at least shows up in the window.

Oh, and I did try to reinstall it, but it didn't work.

Jasmina will get back to you, she is a very customer oriented merchant, I know this because she fixed a fault in an earlier product after some problems, she saw to it very quickly and I'll say this also, when her stuff works smoothly for you, you'll find it's really excellent quality product!

one of the PNG texture files, JR-TEXT-01.PNG is in INDEXED format - that choked Vue when I tried to load the dress.  Try changing it to greyscale in Photoshop or something.  That worked for me in Vue
