Well apparently this was released today unless my info is wrong!!

So question is, has any Vue6Inf or Extreme owners had any contact from e-on yet as to when we can get it, as it's apparently free to us peeps!

I've had no e-mails or anything apart from the newsletter that said it was coming out but nothing else and there's nothing in my account to download either!

Just curious, and knowing me I may have missed something as I'm busy preparing for my new pc anyway so an update is prolly the wrong time at the mo' [LOL].

But i have seen nothing on the E-on site buddy ...

Unfortunately I won't get to play with this for a couple of hours.  Till then I'm stuck watching the real clouds through the office window.   You know you've spent too much time doing CG when you look out across the real world and think there is spotty noise in the rendering around the edges of the shadows on the clouds and the leaves on the trees are flickering too 😄

I often go walking in the Welsh Mountains, and sad to say when I look at the beautiful landscapes, instead of appreciating the beauty, I think "How could I set that up in Vue".
True!!

Maybe they will do what they did before and filter down the fixes from Inf to Pro and below later.  Of course we are already getting last years Inf software, so then again, maybe not!

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 11:24 AM

The more I look at what e-on are doing, the more I suspect that they want to move hobbyists away from Infinite and Xtreme and push them towards the lower end products, just a feeling!!

keenart:  Should get the new pc this coming weekend!  I've changed to Raid 1 set up so I don't lose files hopefully and I've gone for the bigger 22" WS monitor!
Appreciate your assistance with this!

keenart ( ) posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 11:48 AM

22 inch monitor!, now I am jealous!

If you did get Ultimate, in addition to Raid, you can always use the Ultimate Backup Program to clone the Harddrive or Partition to another location, just incase you need to restore folders, files, or the whole Partition. In past I have even cloned to USB External Harddrives as an additional backup.  Because, the file you loose is always the one the a client will call later and ask for a redo or update!

You also get the Virtual PC that can run other OS’s within the Vista Desktop.  So as long as Vue behaves you are on “Cloud 9.”

I think since I am a 2D painter on Canvas, the 3D is getting too expensive for me, and as you say, I will probably have to stay in the lower bracket financially.  I rarely upgrade each year, rather once every 2 or 3 years anyway, but do not make my income from 3D, so that is not where the money is spent.  Still if they would keep the price down I would buy it just for the fun of playing with the software.

Times have changed, competition is tough, and software companies are in a tight corner.

Hope you enjoy the “monster machine.”

thefixer ( ) posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 12:10 PM

I did go for Ultimate in the end, I've gone for the Raid1 so the 2 x 320 Gig Hd's will be mirrored, I know it cuts my storage in half but I've got a 250 Gig HD at the mo' and I've only used 50 Gig of that so far, so a 320 should last me a while [I hope].
I'll also do like I've always done, which is back up to XHD and DVD too!

You can never have enough backups in my book [LOL].

thefixer can you setup your new computer with widescreen beside the one you got now.  It makes it nice to have one for the Internet and one for graphics.  What comes in handy is open a tutorial in the one and use the other at same time.  Can also use the rendercows to make you a little rendering syseten to make use of both computers.  A pic of my new computer on the left  and old one for use on Internet on the right. :)

I hope you can tell me how to use the new features in the update when you get it installed. :)

Downlaoded and installed, running a quicky test with multiple cloud layers over an infinite water plane with GR lighting and godrays enabled. Looks like it intends to take about 12 minutes, which is a marked improvement over the previous speed.....

iloco ( ) posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 5:16 PM

DAle B how do you use the new features and how you suppose to make lighting.  Also how to with cloud layers.   Didnt we alreadhy have that.
I am confused with whats suppose to be new. :)

Yes I can see a big improvement with rendering.  Especialy spectral atmospheres. :)

With my memory manager I can keep Esprit from crashing during Rendering.  But when I move a light of any kind, i. e. point light, no volumetrics or anything, once or twice, I get a system crash.   Turning off everything does not help.  So, I think they need to work on our end soon.  Everytime Vue crashes I have to cleanup a 600 meg crash file.

lam2 ( ) posted Tue, 07 August 2007 at 7:19 PM

v6.5i seems to fix memory issues for me finally!
It's pretty close to the best pre-release build, at least for me.
I can live with this quite happily now, really.
Although I haven't tried everything yet,  but over all, it's a great improvement, I think.

I just can't afford to upgrade my computer right now, so I'm a happy man.

Back from Siggraph - the previews and demos are awesome!  My feet hurt right up to my neck!  Lots and lots of things to see.  Today I just walked around.  Tomorrow and Thursday will be spent mostly between e-on and Zbrush and sitting while they demo the software.  Had just a peak at the new spectral cloud lights - WOW!

Thanks e-on!  It's been really fun to put a face on the people we talk to on the forums!

Just go to the drop down menu bar and select atmosphere; on the list you see add cloud layer, which brings up the editor pane and the libary of cloud types for the atmosphere you choose. Then just start adding and adjusting to suit.

Peggy did you see enought to give us some ideas where these new features are located and maybe tell us a couple things on how to use.
Would been nice had we got something for our help files for the new features or maybe a pdf in the download area explaining where and how to use the new atmosphere features. :)

What probably not many have realised is that in older V6I versions intersecting cloud layers in spectral atmospheres were separated from the program when the scene is rendered. This has changed, they CAN intersect now.

The other new one is, that when you change the sun color, the clouds do react to the light color. A blue sun makes blue clouds now. A green one green.

Thnaks, Wabe. And as dsr points out, lights can now affect clouds. This means you could create a real low cloud layer and have headlights reflect off the clouds as in fog. Also, you can now have lightning effects as well.

See e-on's own Press Release for more.

Gotcha.   Thanks.

Been on to much medacation lately from having some heart work done and bad case the gout in one foot.  Not thinking as I should. :)

This last update reminds me of how the last one with Vue 5 did.  Its now running as it should.  More pleasure in using it.
I am sure still some more issues but maybe now they can be found fast and keep improving the software where it needs be. :)

I can tell its rendering much faster. :)

Will be going back to Siggraph today.  I will sit through a lot more of the 6.5 demos.  But as dsr207 and Mazak pointed out, click that really tiny icon on the light control to have it effect the cloud.  Works great!

As far as what e-on was saying about thunder storms - using a combination of dark colors and negative lights, you can get some really stormy looking clouds.

When I get a chance, I want to try this out for fire and smoke...

I would simply put an lightning object into the clouds, convert it to an area light maybe (or use another light parallel to the lightning object) , switch on cloud interaction in the light attributes as shown above and see what happens.

Look at the image criss just has uploaded that uses the colored/light cloud effect already.
