Subject: Colour to Greyscale gradient?

(This method is also non-destructive.) select your top layer and click on the 'create layer mask' in the layers pallette. then in the gradient fills choose a simple black to white (NOT the black to transparent). draw your gradient left to right (or vice versa) on the image and it should go into the layer mask you just created. You can redraw the gradient as many times as you like till you get the effect you want.

Now thats what i wanted to do. It took a few goes playing with the settings, but i got there in the end:)
