This one was taken at the Toronto zoo. I like the look on its face. Focal length= 82mm. taken through thick glass.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

WOW, that 'trffid' shot is awesome, and I love that shot of the Cheetah he looks so relaxed!

Wow is not so well accepted..but this page is wowy to me..many fine shots and my memory will not allow naming all...wonderful and fun stuff as well as some great photo efforts.

Now, allow me to come several layers or notches down from the quality of this page thus far. These are "pinhole" lens shots from my experimental "dslr pinhole lens".  Since I use Nikon and my lens is of white plastic pipe, it must the "canon" version and that accounts for the poor focus.   Shortribs has a neat thread on "pinhole popular" with some really good pinhole pics he has taken. Mine fall far lower in focus.  Here is the first one, then with the second is some explanation about the "dslr pinhole" lens.

TomDart ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2007 at 8:09 PM

file_385320.jpg

The lens is about 75mm from front to "film plane", requiring an aperture of about 0.32mm for decent focus.  My hole is 0.34mm or there abouts..the smallest drill bit I had.  Then lens is pcv plastic pipe with a circle of aluminum pie plate glued to the end and the hole in that. The thing goes to the camera with gentle masking tape, the sort house painters may use.

Exposure is about 1 second, aperture is approximately f/220.   It might need to be smaller.
Color version is obscene..all the color of the lens interior which is the only satin paint I had and was still shiny. Tomorrow, new tries with flat black paint inside to prevent reflections..we will see.   Dust is a problem of true concern..having heard sensors attract dust like bees to pollen. I would suggest a cheapie and small UV filter taped over the aperture hole and care is placing the lens to the cam.  So much for this...like I said, way down the ladder from the previous images.          TomDart.

The triffid looks like a flower just before opening, amazing to see it like that. They usually don't catch the eye. The young cheetah is such a cutie. The pinhole shots are very interesting Tom, does each paint colour inside the lens make the appearance different? What would some reflective stuff like singpost paint, or glow in the dark do?

awjay ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 7:35 AM

very interesting shot tho Tom..... i may even experiment myself...
oh the flower is a water lilly starting to open

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 7:40 AM

In his later years, my Dad had one of those motorized trikes. He would scoot down town for coffee in the dark of dawn, then take it to a quiet place near the water and wait. As the sun hit each lily it would wake the blooms and the smell would increase. He could describe the experience in great detail and hold his audience in thrall. The local cops used to bring him lunch because he sometimes sat until they closed in the shade of evening.

TomDart ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 7:58 AM

At very quick glance, the water lily appeared sort of an anemone.

Great recent photos everyone. Exotic images the James and the Cheetah looks like it is having a bad hair day and doesn't care Dovid. ;'] Interesting Pinhole experiments Tom. Did you see the thread I started a while back that showed how to make your own digital pinhole? I attached a link with lots of other links you might find of interest. Here's an IR shot from my weekend outing to Lake Wales, FL. This is a place featured in the book Wierd Florida. Was I impressed? I'd better not say. ;']

Jay that is certainly an interesting topping for a fence.

Perhaps Jay is seeking a gelato toupee.   : )

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2007 at 9:39 PM

It looks as if there are more oddities along the fence. I love the new avatar BTW. Ahem, I took a picture today, there are neither a lens cap nor a fingertip in it! Now if I can figure out how I'm going to post it. Julie, my daughter is putting it on a disk and then I'm goging to put it in photobucket. Wish me luck.

awjay ( ) posted Fri, 17 August 2007 at 2:02 PM

it was just after a flood time and the snails had climbed up there....

mamabobbijo ( ) posted Fri, 17 August 2007 at 2:17 PM

It is quite an amusing sight, but I know they do climb things. I'd never seen anything like that though!

I'm thinking that flag is the hood of a smart looking car, Jay. I always look for faces in the fire, as well as whatever else might crawl out. All of your IR pics have an air of frost to them, but these trees look frozen in time, Kort.

Here we have a sighting of the rare 'Gangly-Legged Photographer', often found wandering the countryside during the early hours of the morning, it is best approached with some caution as it is easily startled. 😄
