Subject: Clarification on the C6 free upgrade from C5

Neyjour ( ) posted Wed, 08 August 2007 at 4:43 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 12:52 AM

I plan on buying the boxed version of C5 tomorrow...I'm sooo ready to dump Poser!  😄  But I was wondering, do any of you know if the free C6 upgrade is a download only?  Or will you be able to order the boxed version and just pay for shipping/handling?  Not really a big deal, but I do like to have a physical disc whenever possible.

TIA!
Ney

Download only. I read that in the Carrara forum at Daz. The sneak peak thread, i think it was. I also think the same question was answered in one of the C6 anouncment threads by Steve.

Well, that sucks.  I even asked if the upgrade would be the same as what we ordered, reg-to-reg, pro-to-pro and then just stupidly assumed if I bought 5 boxed I'd get 6 boxed as well.

they haven't yet fixed a price for the C6Pro boxed set. nor will the earlier public versions of C6Pro be on the boxed set IMVHO.

"nor will the earlier public versions of C6Pro be on the boxed set IMVHO."

Why's that?

Why's that?

The pattern has been that the download version preceeds the boxed version by about a month.

OK, now I get it. I didn't read it that way with the "Versions," plural. LOL.

there may be only one public version prior to the boxed set, but if many users complain of crashes and problems during the first week after download commences, they may put out a patch, which may delay release of the boxed set. my main interest in C6Pro is that it may allow users with poser content to dispense with poser entirely, but that remains to be seen. for all we know, e-f may produce P8Pro in such a way that the rendering engine isn't vintage 90s algorithms.

Well, that all sounds about the same as Caligari's handling of TS 7.5.  They even e-mailed us to ask if we wanted 7.5 on the disks, or if we preferred to wait until 7.51.  I assume it was a majority decides type of thing...

Now I'm just hoping that they'll give those who bought during the sale the option of buying the boxed set at reduced cost.  Both of my computers are workstations, and I already don't spend enough time in front of them to be reading digital manuals.  I'd like to have the proper boxed version for that reason.

Is there any word of any Carrara 6 books in the works?

So I did read it right. That is what I thought was meant when I asked.

"Is there any word of any Carrara 6 books in the works?"

As soon as someone can copy down what is already on the net and the manual to charge you.

they will need to get the C6Pro boxed set out ASAP, as it may be approx. 600 MB in toto, and many of their customers are on dial-up. they wouldn't tell me if there's gonna be a discount on the boxed set, for those who download the first release of C6Pro. however, it's likely there will be a discount, as it means more revenue for them.

I have to drive 15 miles to get to a broadband connection where I can download stuff like that.
I would move back to civilization; but the scenery is too nice to leave behind.

I'd pay above cost, so what would that be, $30-50?  I still assume they were gladly getting rid of the boxed copies of 5, whereas 6 is a new item.  Still, I'm used to $200 getting something I can hold in my hand...
