I have had similar comments when I started using C4D. I still use poser figures (via IPP) in my works but the scene is usually created, lit and rendered in Cinema4D. The Cinema4D mods (cartesius/kromekat) are very down to earth on this matter and I tend to follow their opinions. Sorry to hear you had some troubles.
