...Yes-- this is a pretty brilliant NPR program, I think... Carrara has some really great NPR effects- similiar in many ways to these-- but Eovia has NOT really updated or taken them FURTHER along--they have a number of limitations that FreeStyle has greatly improved upon... The DAZ Carrara Dev Team SHOULD look at FreeStyle and see what they have done so that Carrara could take NPR effects in to another level...
FreeStyle uses a layering system- which is one of the main VERY INTERESTING features of FreeStyle- no other NPR program has offered this before...
One other INTERESTING thing too is that Freestyle will output EPS files- so they can be used in programs like Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop...
They have also further developed the concepts of NPR "Style Sheets" and "Style Modules"- also worth noting...
--For anyone having OpenGL Crashes:
... press "h" on the keyboard and it will bring up LOTS of options!-- I found some of my models were crashing the program- probably due to some kind of OpenGL overload- so the "trick" I discovered was to use the camera to Zoom and Position my model- then make it INVISIBLE... Press render and Voila!...heh!
It's NOT a hugely ROBUST program- as it is primarily meant to be a "proof of concept"- and they admit that Python is not the MOST EFFICIENT way to do this... but it offered the ability to allow users to easily program their own NPR effects... so ultimately-- if Freestyle was released with C++ coded modules and sliders it would be a pretty POWERFUL NPR tool...
Hopefully DAZ , or someone, will develope it FURTHER...!
