Yes. I have a good friend who's working right now in Canton, Ohio on a contract job. He tells me that houses & apartment rents are very, very cheap there -- largely because there's very little work to be had in the area.
I've heard of buying a large farm in places like West Virginia for next-to-nothing (maybe $70,000). But there's no work there, either. So it's cheap for a reason.
