Subject: Shoreline Question

I am using the "Distant to Shore" function to create a shoreline, but I don't know if I am positioning or sizing the plane correctly in my scene. As you can see the shore is working, but the rest is not. I am not sure if I should be making the plane (the one with the shore) huge like 800m x 800m or if it should be small and blend with the "Infinite Ground Plane"? Also the shore is the same "Shasta" material as the "Ground" so why do they look so different? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why would you use a plane? Just use  the distance to object below node, and Vue will compute the shoreline without a need for a plane, you just need to have a mixed material for the water, and drive the mixing proportions by the node.

Or use the pre-made material layer in Vue called "foam", does the same thing!! [with a bit of tweaking].

I got rid of the plane and used the infinite ground plane only. So in this scene is only the island and an ground plane. The island is 1m below the water. the water is at 0m. Any ideas why I am getting this effect? Thanks

To me it seems you have a mixed water material layered at the base of a rock material, all belonging to the terrain. Weird stuff...

bruno021, Well yes weird is right. The ground plane is a mixed material but I doesn't belong to the terrain AFAIK. It is totally separate. So the long and short of it is I did this wrong! right! lol.

Just add a water plane, and use mixed materials on it, drive the mixing by the distance to obejct below node, and you're set!

I saved this long time ago, not sure from where...The water is red and white for testing....

He he...  Every time I hear shoreline I keep thinking of that Chief in the Navy telling a young seaman to go get him 30 feet of shoreline.  And off went the young man, to ask everyone around if they had any shoreline...

The pre-made material layer "foam" does the same but the filter is a lot more complex, I like your solution though!!

Wow a great bit of help here. I was doing everything right except my ground plane was missing. Thank you to dsr207, bruno021, peggy and the fixer for your help. :)
