For what it's worth, I have been using scanners for years and I am very happy with my present setup. Do you mean a flatbed scanner for prints? Last year I replaced my five year old HP scanner (400dpi maximum) with an Epson 1200 Perfection Photo and it has been great. It comes with a transparency adaptor which is great for my medium format transparencies and at a pinch will also scan 35mm with a maximum optical resolution of 1200dpi. It also connects to the computer through a USB connector. For my 35mm slide I still think the Nikon Coolscan is the best with a resolution of 2800dpi.
