Dave, I understand what you're saying and agree that some old classics, like The Lost World for example, could be improved upon with modern CG effects, but many others would not. What made The Day the Earth Stood Still such a wonderful film was that it was a great story told well through an outstanding script executed by talented artists. I'm not sure more polished cinematics would be an improvement. Although I'm not a Star Wars fan, many of those who are seemed disappointed by George Lucas's re-editing and improved FX in his director's cuts. They much preferred the originals.
