Star Wars story was completed and there is no reason to keep future space travel simular so that it matches the old version. It could be much improved. Nobody has to leave the technology the same either. No need for monitors at all or buttons and levers to push. The bridge of a star ship could be modernized considerably and brought up to a future date. Even the buttons in the Star Wars movies are old news compared to what we already have today. Couple all that into a story with substance with a good director and unknown actors that could take boxes and sticks and make you imagine your on the bridge of a ship and you might have a winner.
