Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
The usual is to do the job in Photoshop although if you have Poser 5 or later you can play with the U and V scales in in the material setting of the advanced display node set ups.
I have corrected a number of purchased tiles so I can just tile them proceduraly. Thing is I have bought 4 or 5 tiling texture sets in the market place, so-called seamless textures, only to find that yes the border has been blurred to make the texture "seamless" but that there has been no effort to supress elements in the tile that show the repeate. I can't use any of them as tiles without fixing them or I have to paint the map with them in photoshop and clone/mend to hide the repeating elements. Then there are the market place fabric tiles and wallpapers I have bought, rather than align the image to repeat properly and uniformly, instead I find that they have placed a blur or fade running through important elements, perhaps they batch procesed the tiles to be seamles with a Photoshop filter rather than editing them "by hand".
Some vendors it seems think that the blur and fade of the tile edge make a texture "tiling" and "seamless", I don't agree... So far the vendors I have bought from have cropped tight "to protect" their samples from unauthorized use but this has also served to hide the defect of the products in all the purchases I have made, that the tile shows a pronouced repeat where it should not or a distorting repeat where the repeat should be regular such as a bouquette of flowers on a repeating wallpaper or cloth.
If they are materials for Poser, you do it the same way in the material room, only to the ground.
If they are just plain seamless tiles I believe you can still use them in the material room. Only you have to right click in the work space, pick "new node" and then "2D" and then "image_map" and then browse to the material.
I have several seamless floor tiles from archibase.com that I use that way. You can adjust the size of the scaling that the tile is applied.
Or you can use them as flood fills when you are creating textures in your graphic program, or for web backgrounds etc.

I feel I have been failed by all those I have bought here, they all have required extensive editing before they can truly be used as tiles. I have had good luck with procedural textures from the MP but someone else will have to say what are good image based tiling textures.I did get a set of hybrid materials that were a combination of procedural and image mapped texture that was pretty good, 3DDj`s Modular Materials Vol 3 : Naturals.
The texturing .psd and brushes I bought were a disater and the layer styles I bought an even worse disaster. The .psd did not want to play well as layers, the brushes did not have good enough value distribution, and the styles can't be used with anything having more surface area then text selections because of the scale of the repeating elements, lay them on a box or cylinder and they look rediculous. All these products have required extensive editing to texture anything that needs actual tiling such as a rusted iron girder or a cloth curtain prop.
There are free proceduaral textures on the web that are terrific though, RuntimeDNA, and Mapps come to mind. Sorry no links right now.
Sorry to be a bummer but I just am so surprised that this sort of thing would pass as "seamless" in the RMP. These are my own negative examples above to show the idea, I did not want to violate copyright.
Hi Momodot!
Thanks again your help has beed wonderful! DOn't worry about the links....

Thank you!

Acacdia said " You can adjust the size of the scaling that the tile is applied."
Absolutely right, and here's how, just in case you need to know...
Image Map 2 is just there to show how the texture comes in by default.
The connected image map has had its U- and V- scales set to 0.25 (1/4) thus fitting four images in the space of one. The result doesn't show up in the Preview, but does in the render (image at left).
Make sure that the "image Map" entry in the dialogue is set to "Tile" (It's the default, so it usually will be..)
This can sometimes also work for UV-mapped fabric textures but that can be prone to distortion - it depends on the mapping. However, for anything that is more-or-less square, it's usually good enough and saves mucking about with separate bitmaps...
Cheers,
Diolma

Here are lots of seamless tiles that you can use in the material room too.
